For Children
Children’s Ministry – The OCC Children’s Ministry is designed to minister to the spiritual and practical needs of children aged 0-11 years. Even the babes in arms experience the pure unadulterated Word of God, so that at the earliest stages of development our children are being groomed into mighty warriors for God’s glory!!! There are four distinct divisions of this ministry including:
Nursery Ministry: Ministers directly to the needs of children ages 0-4 years old. Babes and toddlers are taught how faith works, how to pray and lay hands on each other when symptoms arise, and the truth of God’s Word through weekly scripture story curriculum. Their hearts are seeded at an early age in anticipation and expectation of a mighty harvest for God’s glory!
Children’s Church: Ministry for children aged 5-11 years that is situated in a fun-filled environment conducive to children’s learning abilities where they are taught the Word of God in terms they can understand and apply directly to their lives, and where they are rewarded as they grasp the revelation that only the Holy Spirit can give. They learn how to sit still and hear God, to pray, to be kind to one another, to speak the Word boldly and to share with one another. The joy of learning permeates this ministry and the seed of the Word that was planted in the hearts of the children when they were in the Nursery is nurtured and protected as it begins to grow and flourish.
Royal Ambassadors: This ministry for boys aged 4-11 years focuses on training them up to be mighty men of God. They learn who they are in Christ Jesus (a royal priesthood!), proper etiquette, respect for others, how to treat a lady, and the joy in serving the Lord. They enjoy monthly outings, sleepovers, pizza parties and interacting with godly role models they can see and touch.
Majestic Misses: This ministry for girls aged 4-11 years trains them to become godly young ladies. Some areas of focus for this ministry are proper etiquette, cultural refinement, self respect, gentleness, kindness, and the love of God. The girls learn who they are in Christ Jesus, that they deserve God’s best because they are His best, that the work of the ministry is a good and desirable thing, that God is their source, and how to walk in the majesty that is their inheritance. This ministry meets monthly.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Youth Ministry: The OCC Youth Ministry, for ages 12 through 17, meets Monday evenings from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for discussion groups on pertinent youth topics ranging from college information, SAT assistance, drugs and sex, and how God’s Word can empower them to resist temptation, to walk in love, be obedient and victorious. There is generally a monthly outing on the calendar, and youth attendees quickly learn how to edify and encourage one another, how to pray together and study the Word while enjoying weekly koinonia fellowship and learning how to be effective, spirit-led leaders. This ministry focuses on empowering youth to be those godly leaders who reach out to other youth with compassion, the love of Jesus and revelation of the Word of God. Mentoring and tutoring are made available as needed.
“Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” II Timothy 2:22
Christian Academy: The OCC Christian Academy is a separate academic institution that provides licensed child care and Christian education for the children in our local community as well as our congregation. Currently serving newborn infants through kindergarten aged children, the academy focuses all curriculums on the Word of God. Children are ministered to based on God’s Word and are not simply baby sat. They are taught godly principles that introduce them to Jesus on their level. Good citizenship, sharing, reading, writing, math, phonics and all basic foundational education is taught in a Christian environment, where children learn who they are in Christ, what belongs to them, how to pray and declare life over their circumstances, and the power and authority to live their lives for Jesus.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” II Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
